Happy 100th Birthday AZ

This year is our great state's centennial. They had a festival downtown to celebrate Arizona's 100 years and we thought it was a once in a lifetime thing we really wanted the girls to experience. My mom and I took the three big girls. They had 5 different areas that showcased Arizona's heritage. There was a western town, a military area, a Mexican town, and Indian village and an art area.
We had just learned about the liberty bell in history a few weeks ago so thought this was super neat.
Our copper topped state capital. We have been learning about the 5 C's. Copper, cattle, citrus, cotton, and climate.
In the western town town we got to pan for gold.
And ride in a stage coach. This was pretty cool they even rocked it so it felt like they were going on a ride. The girls said it was very bumpy.
We saw a Native American show. The Indian village was super cool and I am kinda mad a t myself for not taking more pictures we has so much fun learning about everything I forgot about my camera. The had replica's that you could walk in of the different kind of houses they live in and we saw lots of basket weaving and pot making. I learned that if I was Hopi I would be considered very lucky because they want lots of girls in their families. They were very impressed we had 5 girls in our house:)
A cool fly over. A little blurry but neat.
I loved this quote. "I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him." Abraham Lincoln
This was a mime dressed up like all the statues in the park. So cool. The girls really like watching him. Unfortunately that is all the pictures I took. We got to see a neat western show about Tombstone and Wyatt Earp, like the kind at Rawhide. We also won 4 loaves of bread. My favorite part:) They had lots of booths and we got tons of free stuff. One of the booths was put on by Natures Own and they were giving away loaves of bread if you spun the wheel and landed on it. Each of the girls and my mom won a loaf of bread. I didn't spin because I didn't want to carry around any more bread:) It was a great field trip and we learned a lot about our great state. We are going to keep learning about AZ this school year and travel around the state and check out all the neat things our state has to offer. We want to try and go to the Grand Canyon, Montezuma's Castle, and Tombstone just to name a few. There are so many cool things to do in Arizona I think it is the perfect year to actually do all those things we say we should do but never do.

Oh sure, now that I am gone you are going to travel down to my neck of the woods (tombstone is super close to where we were living).
I think the idea of traveling around to learn about AZ is a great idea - something I always wanted to do, but never did...
