Do you wonder what laundry for SEVEN people looks like. Well lets just say it looks a lot like this.....
Laundry is my arch enemy. It is that constant companion that just just won't be ignored and if you try really hard for a couple of days it gets mad and multiplies! haha Anyway I started tracking how many loads of laundry I do a week...... Why you ask........Well mostly for validation that on weeks it seems like nothing gets done I can proudly say, but I did 14 loads of laundry. Oh my, oh my I had no idea it was that many loads until I counted. Two years ago I went on a quest to find the thriftiest way to do almost everything. My first task I hurdled was laundry soap. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Tide but it is so expensive. I decided to try and make my own. I did lots of research and finally tried a recipe and it worked AWESOME! I have never gone back and you can't beat the cost. It costs less than $2.00 a month. It only takes a few ingredients that you can get at the grocery store.
I don't start frowning till I have to fold it and put it away:(

I love this post! I don't mind washing the clothes either, but putting them away is SO HARD for some reason. I've always wanted to try your laundry soap. I guess I should just break down and do it. Just curious, but what fabric softener do you use?
Okay, I've been meaning to ask you...does the soap you make work just as good as the stuff you buy? Does it make your clothes fade? I really want to try and make my own soap, but those are my two hangup's. One time I went out to buy the igrediants, and I couldn't find one (I think it was the borax) so I gave up. We do insaine amounts of laundry too. One week I did 15 loads (although I think I average about 10). I always cringe at how much a bottle of laundry soap cost.
Two things to add:
1 - On the commercial/store bought laundry detergent you can safely use a drastic reduced amount and still get your clothes clean - it is the agitation of the machine more than the soap that does the cleaning. Which leads me to...
2. I know exactly how much laundry looks for 7 people. I had the grand privilige of washing clothes by hand for 30 days for 7 people - after the first week, I told my family they had to wear their pants and shirts a lot more before I would wash them! It didn't matter how much soap I used - the more I scrubbed the cleaner the clothes got...not a lot to do with the soap. :) (Yeah, I we just went through a Super Typhoon and didn't have electricity for 30 days...)
Dandi- I use bounce dryer sheets. I like the way it makes my clothes smell and I figured I save so much on the soap and I can splurge on the fabric softener.
Lori- I haven't noticed any fading that is more than normal and I believe I have been wearing pretty clean clothes for the last 2 years. lol I do use shout on the bad spots that are mostly Audrey's.
I would be happy to help you make the soap both of you.
PS Get the borax at Walmart it is the cheapest there but the other stuff you have to get at Fry's or Bashas.
I would love to learn! Let me know when you're giving out lessons and I'm there! :o)
And I will come help you fold it any time - and you know that's true. :)
